Hope all is well. I have some exciting news to share with you all and that is that The Good Kitchen now has charitable status here in Italy. We are registered as an Italian ASP which is an Association for Social Projects. There has been lots of exciting developments as well and I am so happy that the people of Mussomeli have embraced the project.
We now deliver meals to elderly people of the town every Sunday using surplus food. On a Sunday we also cook a free meal in the kitchen for people of the town who may be alone or newcomers to Mussomeli. On Friday night we have a group of young people cooking for each other and creating a safe space for the youth of the town. We also have our first young trainee who cooks with me every Sunday volunteering and learning everything about how to run a Community Kitchen. I have also been working on the development of the Community Kitchen Cooking Course and I am planning to run the first course for 6 young chefs in Summer 2022.
There has been some great PR about the project as well. A team from Arte Germany have been here filming a documentary on The Good Kitchen which will air in Germany and France in the new year and SBS Australia will be filming a segment on The Good Kitchen at the end of November. There was a news story here in Italy on Rai Television and coverage in The Telegraph Weekend Magazine. I have finally found a builder to renovate the 1 euro house and that work will be completed in January 2022. The house will provide accommodation for the students and volunteers and also a space to store food and prep on a large scale.
Thank you again for your support. It has been hugely rewarding to see the project grow and I am looking forward to sharing more good news with you all in the future. Sharing some images below of the delicious food that has been cooked at our Sunday lunches.
